ANYTHING, SOMETHING, THE RIGHT THING
Demand is out pacing supply in vehicles, components, and expertise. Anyone can call themselves a van builder. Currently there are no licensing or standards in the Vehicle Upfit Industry. Buyer Beware.
Quick OR Quality – rarely both is achieved on custom work.
Standardized or Personalized.
Choose the strategy that is right for you.
Select your upfitter with care.
“Full Build” Projects
From 2018 until the shop opening in July 2020, Ray Outfitted operated as a mobile upfitter, traveling to DIY’ers to provide project specific work. We travelled coast to coast in Canada, working with Canadians on their off grid and mobile projects. Ray also received factory training in the US by industry leaders including AM Solar. Living and working from our DIY campervan gave us experience, opportunities and started the development of our off grid upfit best practices. Check out our DIY Collaboration projects here.
New Project Timeframes
While we understand how the road calls and the excitement for the first trip - it’s important to remember these are large projects and can be a significant investment. Focusing on speed can compromise the quality of your upfit. It takes time to get the right vehicle, source key components, create a layout that will be functional and complete the fabrication and installation. We cannot confirm earliest possible start date of installation before parts are ordered. The start of installation phase is of course dependent on the availability of your vehicle and the required parts. Rushed prioritize often have to compromise on quality. At Ray Outfitted we prioritize durability, functionality and repair-ability. Speed is not our measure of success as we focus on long term enjoyment and not just the first trip.
Past Projects
Often called “Full Builds” these are some of the start to finish projects completed since our shop opening. Not all clients provide permission to publish content related to their custom vehicle. We respect their privacy.
The Family Sprinter Van:
This 170WB Sprinter Crew Van has a factory second row seat to give their children all the safety features modern vehicles come with. The upfit is built to enable a 3 person or 2 person second row seat to be used. The van is off grid and four season capable with radiant heated floors, heated air, hot water and the chosen comforts to keep parents, dogs and two children under the age of two comfortable on the road.
The Bamboo Promaster:
This four season and off grid capable van was designed by the owners and finishing details were selected in collaboration with their interior designer.
The Wellness Wagon:
This four season and off grid van required great flexibility in it’s layout. The goal: A van that could both operate as a medical clinic and as a mountain bike adventure van.
The foundation of this custom Ray Outfitted van build is an Adventure Wagon kit. Ray Outfitted equipped this 4x4 170WB Sprinter with everything: radiant heated floors, off grid air conditioning, a robust (& expandable) battery bank, plumbing, custom cabinets and off grid connectivity to enable camping and medical clinics without shore power or a generator. The base of this custom upfit is an Adventure Wagon kit - providing L track to enable flexibility in mounting gear inside the van.
The Red Transit Van:
This four season, off grid family van has L-Track mounting systems to enable flexibility for the owners throughout the seasons.
The Mobile Audiology Clinic
The Yukon Van
The Yukon Van was the first total upfit project in the Ray Outfitted shop. The owner, John, lived on the property for the adVANture of upfitting his digital nomad tiny home.
This van’s cabinetry was done in collaboration with a Canadian CNC cabinetry shop.
